Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT)
Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy IMRT, this technology combines the advantages of Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT) with those of Arc Therapy, obtaining a very high quality of treatment in an extremely short time (approximately 3 minutes), thus increasing patient comfort and levels of precision of it.
This also allows fourth-dimensional treatments, which in addition to locating the tumor with the traditional parameters (depth, width and length), take into account respiratory movements, which sometimes move it up to 3 cm in any direction, in order to protect neighboring healthy organs.
The IMRT system is very useful for treatments that require individual daily immobilization, such as head and neck injuries. In this type of case, patients are immobilized with a tightly fitting thermoplastic mask for about 20 minutes during each session. With the incorporation of RapidArc, patient immobilization can be reduced to just three minutes. traditional (depth, width and length), takes into account respiratory movements, which sometimes move it up to 3 cm in any direction, in order to protect neighboring healthy organs.
Other types of injuries, such as those of the prostate, can also be treated in much shorter periods of time. Previously, they required approximately 15 minutes, while with this new technology they can be treated in 3-minute sessions. Speed in this type of treatment is of vital importance, since the prostate can undergo position changes, reducing the precision of the treatment.
